Fallout Tactics - The Playthrough: Mission 5 - Preoria (Video No.5)
A playthrough of Fallout Tactics, the third title of the Fallout game franchise that came out in 2001. While a "Fallout" game, Fallout Tactics is considered non-canon in the Fallout franchise established by the numbered titles, though some parts of the story told by the Brotherhood of Steel focused game have been integrated into the storyline as suggested in Fallout 3.
One of two missions assigned to the Warrior after reaching Bunker Beta was to find and secure Fusion Batteries for the Brotherhood. Preoria was a pre-war storage facility according to intel, but a group of tribals had made their home outside the facility. It was up to the Warrior to contact the tribals and find out where the Fusion Batteries are.
The tribals were said to be a religious group that zealously guarded the entrance to the facility, but after speaking to their leader, it seemed they were more than happy to let the armed strangers underground into a place the Brotherhood believed the tribals had held sacred. In fact, it was the opposite and the tribals believed the place to be cursed by evil spirits.
The tribal shaman's descriptions of the dangers of the cursed place suggested that radiation poisoning would be a concern given the vomiting and fever symptoms experienced by those who went down and returned, on top of the mutations they described that children had. There were also turrets that brought death to intruders, but the Warrior's squad knew how to operate and watch the automated turrets patterns to get past them without dying like the tribals.
Above ground, there were radscorpions in the surrounding areas, and underground there were giant cockroaches. If anything, the mission was akin to pest control and there were no worries about crafty intelligent enemies that the Warrior had to fight in missions up to now. Though pests, the radiation-mutated creatures were still dangerous and there was no reason for the squad to let their guard down.
Fighting their way past the pests while dodging turrets, the Warrior's squad managed to locate some Fusion Batteries in the underground facility. As they ventured deeper, they came across a switch that flipped the power distribution and awoke the turrets outside. Not wanting the tribals above ground to get killed for being at the wrong place at the wrong time, the Warrior carefully timed his squad's movements. This meant leaving one person behind to man the switch to open the doors then close them before the turrets above ground activates. This plan helped save the tribals above from dying an unfortunate death.
Eventually, the squad reaches the innermost chamber that hosted an incredibly huge cockroach. After defeating it, the Warrior and his team looted the container behind it to find the last of Fusion Batteries he needed to bring back for the mission to be a success. Upon returning to the surface, the Warrior speaks to the tribal leader once more. They were told that they were fools tricked into fighting the evil spirits and were now cursed themselves. As thanks for taking the curse away from the tribe, the elder gave the Warrior an additional Fusion Battery that made him all the more pleased.
Not understanding that the Brotherhood knew about the effects of radiation poisoning and how to treat it, the elder stood confused but nonetheless grateful.
Having returned with more Fusion Batteries than the mission required, General Barnaky gave the Warrior and his squad another stellar review for a job well done and going above and beyond.
