Famicom Series Japanese Game Boy Advance Games
Nintendo released a number of games on the Game Boy Advance from the original NES, but they look boring and blah. In Japan, Nintendo released a series of Famicom Japanese Game Goy Advance Games that, frankly, look so much better than what we got here in the USA. Let's take a closer look.
I ordered several games recently from our friends at Japan Retro Direct, and one of the games I knew I had to have was the Famicom Mini Super Mario Bros. (ファミコンミニ スーパーマリオブラザーズ). Unlike the US NES Game Boy Advance releases which were simply black label variants with text, the Japanese Versions have the actual artwork from the original Famicom releases. One of the really interesting things to me, as someone who collects a lot of imports, is the game cart code, HVC-SM, is the same as the Famicom version! This is pretty awesome!
For those not familiar with these releases, both the NES and Famicom versions have been optimized for the Game Boy Advance and Game Boy Advance SP displays. That means unlike Game Boy or Game Boy color variants of games, these are meant to be played on the full-width of the display. They have been faithfully remastered for this platform, and the games look, sound, and play wonderfully.
