Doing this simple quest to achieve level 70 in The Burning Crusade reminded me why I play these games in the first place.

It is the same story enveloped in magic and alchemy, of lost races and utopias, the individual on the path of the ‘hero’ to overcome ‘evil’ and reach the final grail, godhood, and immortality. From the early Iron age, through Greece and the Medieval Fantasy this is what our ignored videogame narratives today are trying to tell us.

And while we might think of this as a big leap of faith into ‘Imagination land’ current research suggests otherwise…
