The AMD Athlon X4 940 is a desktop processor with 4 cores, launched in July 2017. It is part of the Athlon lineup, using the Bristol Ridge architecture with Socket AM4. Athlon X4 940 has 2MB of L2 cache and operates at 3.2 GHz by default, but can boost up to 3.6 GHz, depending on the workload. AMD is building the Athlon X4 940 on a 28 nm production process using 3,100 million transistors. The silicon die of the chip is not fabricated at AMD, but at the foundry of GlobalFoundries. The multiplier is locked on Athlon X4 940, which limits its overclocking capabilities.
With a TDP of 65 W, the Athlon X4 940 consumes typical power levels for a modern PC. AMD's processor supports DDR4 memory with a dual-channel interface. The highest officially supported memory speed is 2400 MHz, but with overclocking (and the right memory modules) you can go even higher. For communication with other components in the system, Athlon X4 940 uses a PCI-Express Gen 3 connection. This processor does not have integrated graphics, you will need a separate graphics card.
Hardware virtualization is available on the Athlon X4 940, which greatly improves virtual machine performance. Programs using Advanced Vector Extensions (AVX) will run on this processor, boosting performance for calculation-heavy applications. Besides AVX, AMD is including the newer AVX2 standard, too, but not AVX-512.
The FirePro V4800 was a mid-range professional graphics card by ATI, launched on April 26th, 2010. Built on the 40 nm process, and based on the Redwood graphics processor, in its Redwood XT GL variant, the card supports DirectX 11.2. The Redwood graphics processor is an average sized chip with a die area of 104 mm² and 627 million transistors. It features 400 shading units, 20 texture mapping units, and 8 ROPs. ATI has paired 1,024 MB GDDR5 memory with the FirePro V4800, which are connected using a 128-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 775 MHz, memory is running at 900 MHz (3.6 Gbps effective).
Being a single-slot card, the ATI FirePro V4800 does not require any additional power connector, its power draw is rated at 69 W maximum. Display outputs include: 1x DVI, 2x DisplayPort 1.1. FirePro V4800 is connected to the rest of the system using a PCI-Express 2.0 x16 interface. The card measures 168 mm in length, 111 mm in width, and features a single-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 189 US Dollars.
