So, you're starting the game (or perhaps replaying, as I was) and want to get the Holster as quickly as possible? Awesome, we can do that.
First up, buy the Megabow and take the Wolves Den mission from Amita. That will net you enough Tibetan Wolf Skins for the sidearm slot.

Next, Malayan Tapirs. These will appear under the first bell tower that you unlock as part of the incursion mission. They may be a bit of a pain to spawn, but keep running around with hunting syringes active, and you'll be fine.

Finally, Honey Badgers. I know I have a video showing them north over the mountain, but there's actually an even easier place to spawn them, so follow the directions, and enjoy a maxed holster in the first 30 mins of playing! Since the honey badger is a spawnable creature using bait, you can feel free to use a gun against them.
