This is the movie that’s started the transition into what these films would become. Tapping more into the heist elements that have always been there since the first film (robbing DVDs) and becoming an action film.

Sadly this is when we started getting less and less street racing and while I do enjoy the new style up until fast and furious 8 (after which they jump the shark) I think the racing was such a fun element.

I think the zeitgeist as a whole was moving away from street racing that had been focal to the culture from the early 2000s. The fast and the furious 4 came out in 2009 now the iPhone and MCU had taken over the mainstream.

While I don’t think this movie was the best in series when it came out, nor do I think it is an underrated gem now. We do get one of my favourite races in the series when Dominic toretto (vin diesel) and Brian O’Connor (the late Paul walker) audition for braga. The blue skyline is iconic street culture car so it’s gets points off aura alone. Also we get to see on a technical, improvisational level Brian is an incredible driver however he doesn’t have the edge to bend the rules (being in law enforcement) as dom does to win the race. This shows the differences in the background and what street culture gave dom which is grit. Dom also is a good driver however relied on pure horsepower in his vehicle and doing what ever it takes to win.

We get another dom wheelie which he did in the first movie, in fact there are other parallels to first movie as while it is the 4th movie it is the sequel to dom and Brian as a duo. The intro scene to the movie where they hijack the gasoline truck is a nod to the intro of the first movie where they hijack the DVDs. The stakes are bigger now because the fast and furious series is a more established and now have bigger budgets.

These 2 great scenes are packaged into an underwhelming movie with a boring finale.

It seems unrecognisable from #fastx which is a superhero film and Jason mamoa and Brie Larson join the cast.

Brie Larson interestingly enough is performing in the theatre as elektra. She also has an Oscar so feel this is another badge for her career.

I think fast x part 2 is scheduled for 2026 and will conclude the fast saga.

This movie also has a GNX scene in it which is a legendary car too. Vin diesels slides under an exploding gasoline truck in it which also lends to the franchise losing touch with reality. There is a story of the GNX being faster than a Ferrari but I don’t know what model that story lends too. The GNX is also in pop culture right now as Kendrick Lamar’s last album is named after the car. The beef between him and Drake is long over now and he is pushing his next single Nokia of some sexy songs for you. I think both parties will be fine post beef and perhaps drakes lost more credibility in the hip hop due to his own actions of suing. Kendrick also appeared multiple times on Playboi Carti’s i am music album which remains a number 1 album weeks after release beating out Selena Gomez album tbh I didn’t know he was that big as a mainstream figure.
