Well this game is massive I haven’t finished it and most of this is say is early and middle portion gameplay. I think endgame will look even better. It’s been about a month since this has been released.

I was sure to pick this up as the Japanese assassins creed has been a dream for a long time and I actually felt I shoulda picked up Valhalla. It was criticised for being too big but it lived as the mainline entry for 5 years. That’s enough time for it to be enjoyed.

Naturally this will be compared to ghost of Tsushima. The combat and samurai gameplay is far better and smoother in ghost and the stealth is far better in assassins creed. My biggest criticism is AC lacks some finesse from day 1 in 2007 it’s always been a bit clunky and the animations and control and snap like Lego feeling.

I like the dual protagonist I spend about 30% of the time as Yasuke and the other 70 as Naoe. I think they work well as good palette cleansers for each other as once you’ve got the rhythm down you’re doing the same thing for most of the game. Exploration does feel a bit more organic and it being tied to your skill progression I think works well.

Yasuke is so OP which is fun, from katana, and teppo there is a lot to his combat. Naoe combat can be frustrating at times as she is weak and I think I’d like her to have more stagger on some moves. I can hardly finish a combo string as I’m always getting interrupted.

I read the Shortest History of Japan by Lesley Downer and Ninja by John Man in preparation for the game. They done well in weaving the historical aspect of the game with the fiction. I actually feeling like I’m in that time period. From Nobunaga, Mitsuhide, Hattori Hanzo and more I think they are characterised well given what we know about these people historical.

I’ll keep playing and it’s a game I’ll stick with as it’s exactly what I wanted though I could t honestly rate it more the an 8/10. Also the game is gorgeous graphically which has to be said. One more thing I know the game is called shadows but it can get crazyyyyyy dark to the point I can’t see anything.
