So I've been quite looking forward to this game for a while. I picked it up today and played through the single player cups on the first difficulty setting you have unlocked (Subsonic). It was fun.

Then I went into the online mode to try out some multiplayer racing. On my first attempt (not shown here) I went into the menu and it started making an awful loud noise and made the console freeze completely. I thought this was odd as I don't recall the Wii U ever freezing up on me before, but upon reloading I got into a couple of races and they played just fine.

Later on I go back with the thought I might record some online races for something for FCPlaythroughs just to show the game off, and that's where these antics began.

First up is a typical can't connect message. Okay, fair enough, it's day one, there's probably a lot of people trying to play online, there might be the odd drop here and there, and it let me back into the menu fairly quickly so no biggie.

Then we get into the race, and... yeah. I swear it let me accelerate before the countdown finished, before randomly cutting the race short to show what looks like an incorrectly programmed results screen.

After that the game played ball for about 40-odd minutes, until I decide I'll play one more race... I get to the end past the results screen, and... another complete console freeze, just like the first one I had offscreen. Awful noise and all.

I was debating as to whether it's worthwhile making a big deal like this, and ultimately decided making the console freeze multiple times is where I draw the line. I -want- to be able to recommend this game because when it works it's a lot of fun and is a great racer, but I feel awkward doing so in its current state. If you're only really interested in the single player then it's absolutely fine, but if you're looking for this primarily for online then I'd suggest holding on for a bit until it (hopefully) gets fixed, unless you happen to be particularly patient.
