IMPACT: FEEDING THE WORLD WITH ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE, POWERED BY UM6P
Future Investment Initiative 7th Edition | October 25th, 2023
In an era of rising global temperatures and supply-side shocks that constrain food supplies, data-led agriculture, powered by AI, offers an out for farmers who are otherwise forced to resort to environmentally harmful or economically unsustainable practices. With over 345 million people experiencing severe food insecurity in 2023 - double the number from 2020 according to the World Food Programme - and set to worsen with the approaching ten billion global population, the urgency is evident. Is there an effective roadmap to developing these technologies and ensuring equitable access, especially for smallholder farmers - often some of the world’s poorest and hungriest - and those most vulnerable to crop failures as a result of climate change?
