Felix the Cat is a video game released in 1992 for the Nintendo Entertainment System and in 1993 for the Game Boy by Hudson Soft. It is based on the cartoon character Felix the Cat.
The player controls Felix the Cat as he sets out to defeat the evil mad Professor who has kidnapped Felix's lovely girlfriend, Kitty. The Game Boy version plays virtually the same as the NES version, but features fewer levels.
Felix the Cat has simple game mechanics. The A button is used to jump (press repeatedly to fly or swim), and the B button is used to attack. The type of attack varies depending on the magic level. When Felix falls into the bottomless pit (past the bottom of the level), runs out of time, or loses all his health, he loses a life. Scattered items replenish health and magic. Enemies include moles, tree trunks, cannons, birds, fish, and eight boss monsters. Enemies generally follow a regular pace back and forth, and Felix can shoot them. If Felix takes a hit, his magic power goes down one level. If Felix is at the lowest magic power and gets hit, he loses a life. There are nine worlds.
The World's Most Famous Cat is off on his greatest adventure yet! Felix must rescue his girlfriend Kitty from his oldest adversary - The Professor. You see, The Professor has kidnapped her and demands Felix's Magic Bag of Tricks as ransom. Now it's up to Felix to save the day! Join Felix on his worldwide search - fly a monoplane across mountains, delve into the ocean depths in a submarine and race across bizarre landscapes in a wild and wacky one-wheeled car! All of these provided by the Magic Bag of Tricks! But beware! The Professor has his crew out to stop Felix. Rock Bottom, Poindexter and Master Cylinder can't wait to try their luck at capturing our courageous hero. So get set for incredible action in a world where imagination is all a hero needs!
Felix The Cat is a platformer based on the famous cartoon character.
The Professor has kidnapped Kitty, Felix girlfriend, trying to exchange her for Felix' magic bag. Naturally, Felix is not going to let himself be blackmailed, and instead sets out to free Kitty.
There are four different types of levels.
Typical platforming levels in which Felix has to make his way to the exit while jumping about obstacles and chasms, killing enemies using different weapons.
Swimming levels in which Felix rides a float or on the back of a dolphin.
Levels that take place entirely under water.
Flying levels that put Felix in control of different flying devices, such as a plane, a hot-air balloon or an umbrella.
Throughout all levels, Felix can collect cat symbols to improve his weapons. After collecting a certain number of cat symbols, milk bottles or hearts will appear. Hearts improve Felix' current weapon. What types of weapon Felix can use, depends on what type of level he is in. There are lots of different weapons ranging from a boxing glove to motorcycles to tanks to spaceships. All weapons that are better than the standard weapon have an energy bar that diminishes over time and can be refilled by collecting milk bottles. Getting hit by an enemy decreases the level of Felix' current weapon. If he gets hit while carrying the standard weapon, he loses a life.
The Game Boy version plays virtually identically to the NES version, but features less levels.
The evil Professor has captured Kitty Cat and taken her far, far away! He wants the incredible Magic Bag of Tricks from Felix. If Felix can't rescue his girlfriend, who knows what the Professor will do?
Luckily, Felix still has the Magic Bag. You must use the awesome powers of the Magic Bag to their fullest if you want to rescue Kitty.
