I recently attended Final Fantasy Distant Worlds : Coral. The schedule was picked by Nobuo Uematsu himself, so many of the populars were played but also some not so well known. For the first time in my life, I heard Kids Run Through The City Corner orchestrated live and man it gave me chills! I’ve listened to this song so many times before in my life, but the orchestral version was surreal. Of course this inspired me to go home and learn the song right away.

I remember the first time this song graced my ears. You enter a town in FF6, and immediately you see kids running around living life. The world is in turmoil, or about to be, and the kids are running around with no care in the world. Blissful ignorance at its finest. As adults, we yearn for the carefree days of our youth, a simple yet peaceful life. Through the lens of an adult, and truly grasping the concept of simplicity in life, I wonder what Nobuo Uematsu envisioned when he composed this song. The game creators sure did a great job at depicting it, as you can tell by my nostalgic attachment.

Anyways, the 110 bpm for this song wasn’t easy. It definitely gave me good practice on tempo as well as broken chords. It’s funny that when you hear a song and envision how you’d play it, the speed is always slower in your head than when you actually press the keys. 110 is still a pretty fast tempo for me so this was great practice and experience.

Also, fun fact but according to my online search, a coral is what is gifted to someone for their 35th birthday in Japan. Hence, Coral for the namesake of the 35th anniversary of Distant Worlds. How cool! :)
