With the Remake just around the corner I figured there was enough content for me to try some lines from each of the male characters shown in the FFVII Remake Trailers so far. so I'm gonna breakdown my approach to each of them in order...

BIGGS
So I started off with this one by doing a rendition of how I imagined him sounding as opposed to basing it off of Gideon Emery's performance. Not much to say here.

WEDGE
I've honestly never tried voicing Wedge before (maybe once in a fandub audition long ago) but I sort of felt like giving him sort of a "young gun" kind of a feel.

HEIDEGGER
I tried to match his tone in the trailer. I thought the voice they gave him was not only appropriate but suited him to a tee! So I tried to base my performance off of that!

REEVE TUESTI
Another voice I've never tried; I tried to go for what I thought he'd sound like when he was a couple of 3D cubes.

PRESIDENT SHINRA
Gosh I hate voicing characters like this... NOT because they aren't fun to voice but more because I can't seem to pull 'em off naturally. So I think i butchered this quite a bit.

HOJO
This one is more in the pocket for me. I've voiced Hojo quite a lot in past "full" fandubs and returning to this voice was actually quite fun for me. No hassle, no hiccups, just a fun character to play for me.

ANDREA
I sure hope I got his name right or this video won't age well... I tried to hit a manly register with a slightly smarmy feel. Not quite slimy, but was trying to go for an uncomfortable elegance... not sure I made any sense there.

PALMER
I actually LOVED how they portrayed him in the Remake! His quick giggles suit him soooo well! I thought they cast this one perfectly and so I tried to emulate the original!

ROCHE
I heard his voice and I thought "Man! wouldn't it be great if Troy Baker voiced him?" and so I tried to channel a Baker-esque performance. Hope I didn't fall flat though...

RED XIII (Nanaki)
Quite ironically I voiced Nanaki a LOT in TheLifestream.net's Case of Nanaki and other novel audiobooks. When I heard his voice in the trailer it made me think of a much better version of my performance there.

RENO
After all these years I'm still trying to do a Quinton Flynn and end up failing. Such a distinct sound that's just hard for me to emulate.

RUDE
I tried to hit sort of a "jazzy" low tone. Hope that comes across or else I'll just sound weird.

TSENG
I've voiced this guy quite a lot when people were doing Crisis Core fandubs left and right. And I've always resorted to using my "Squall" voice for him. (btw I think the direction they went for Tseng's voice in the Remake is amazing)

DON CORNEO
Originally I wanted sort of a New York Italian mafia creep feel... but there's much talk about how people think Mark Hamill lent his voice for the Don in the remake so...

BARRET WALLACE
My Barret voice has evolved over the years. I quite like where I ended up! I feel like I gave him that sort of "Mr.T" vibe that a lot of people playing the original felt while not straying too far from John Eric Bentley's portrayal. He's a hard man to match in the sense that he really ups the dial when it comes to his performance.

CLOUD STRIFE
In the past, when people had to compare my Cloud to Steve Burton's, I had to constantly tone myself down. Not only in acting, since Cloud used to be characterized by a certain flatness in delivery, but also in pitch since Steve Burton's voice had a lower pitch to him. But now that people are slowly getting accustomed to Cody Christian as the new Cloud, I've been getting a LOT of comments telling me that my Cloud is "too deep". Seriously, people need to make up their minds! LOL I decided to keep all the things that made my Cloud rendition unique (the slight country-boy feel) but allow myself to go more youthful in pitch without the burden of having to match Burton. So I hope you guys enjoy where I landed with my Cloud voice. I can only imagine this voice in my head whenever I read a Cloud line. This is a voice I made specifically JUST for Cloud.

SEPHIROTH
I've said this time and again, but I've always tried to make a good intersection of both George Newbern and Toshiyuki Morikawa's take on the character. I used a lot of Newbern's inflection while using Morikawa as a pitch and guide for vocal quality. Trying to bridge the two worlds. I hope you guys still enjoy my Sephiroth after all these years. Not sure if I will take some notes from Tyler Hoechlin's rendition of the character, but I'm sure when the Remake comes out that he'll somehow influence the way I approach the character.
