FFXIV Endwalker - Part 98: As the Heavens Burn [Unspoiled]
Fourchenault's escort quest goes awry. Jullus and Alisaie stake solid claims to "Best Boy/Girl" titles, standing up to Zenos.
"You'll be alone for an eternity, and you'll deserve every agonizing second of it."
-Alisaie, Queen Badass
---
-I love seeing Tataru, Krile, and Ququshu hanging together.
-It helps my estimation of Fourchenault to know that he was an awful dickasaurus to his kids out of misdirected care rather than malice. Still waiting on an apology.
-And yet... poor Fourchenault. He feels so horrific at losing his own escort quest. I feel you.
-One of my favorite moments in this session was the horror at 7:00. The stalking monsters with round red eyes, the Hannish voice change, the transformation into that many-faced phantom. *shudder*
-XIV continues to do a great job with playing as non-WoL characters. I loved that Crimson Savior ability from Alisaie! It made her feel like not just a generic red mage, but her own version of a red mage.
-Regarding the twins' age: I fear I came off more prescriptive in this video than I intended. I see him as early 20s based on his growth, his time in the First, and just the general passage of time I've experienced with all the game's expansions, but I understand the game's writers may disagree. You may disagree too. That's totally fine, and I don't think my interpretation is the only one!
I'll also add this: I do NOT believe that something the game's writers/designers say is canon is necessarily canon. The GAME is canon. I see the writers/designers as especially knowledgeable theorists and critics about what they wrote, but I feel comfortable disagreeing with them about how to interpret the game's canon at times.
-They did All The Things From the Trailer!
-I'm not sure what to make of G'raha summoning a spectral sword and shield. Just random magic, sign of paladin job change, or something else? I lean towards it being a sign of a potential job change to paladin.
-HOW FRIGGING GREAT WAS IT TO SEE JULLUS AND ALISAIE STAND UP TO ZENOS???
-While I appreciate Jullus not taking any of Zenos' bullshit, I don't think he made any sort of impact on Zenos.
But Alisaie. ALISAIE. She may not feel like she got through to him, but I feel like she cut into his philosophical armor like a hot knife through butter. Will it make him more desperate? Change tactics? I don't know, but it clearly impacted him.
