FG's Underrated Videogame Music 402 - Drill (Jade Cocoon)
Name: Drill
Game: Jade Cocoon: Story of the Tamamayu
Developer: Genki
Year of Release: 1998
Composer: Manami Matsumae
Developed in collaboration with Studio Ghibli's Katsuya Kondo, Jade Cocoon is a cult classic RPG that revolves around capturing insect-like Minions in order to defend the protagonist's home of Levant. In a dangerous world filled with deadly forests swarming with such creatures, perhaps the only way to defend oneself against the world is to turn its own creatures against it.
The standard battle theme of the game is dark and dangerous, fitting for what will be a battle in the forest about 90% of the time you play this. Trees standing tall to overshadow you, vile bugs scraping their legs back and forth across mulchy undergrowth, poisonous mushrooms oozing with deadly spores. A theme like this should help keep your head down and your dagger poised for what will become a cautious journey.
