Field Briefing: Avoid A Double Climb If Possible
When we were at Augustine Spring Area road was blocked by foliage on the road which Ty Corbin removed manually later on and we proceeded on foot, and the reels are on a hard drive somewhere, not uploaded, but we no longer need the Augustine reel. This pan will do fine as a reference of the grade and slope and back checking it on the topography map. Not a very exposed scramble but a tiring one.
Double Climb is pain in the six: climb up, drop down all the way down to ravine bottoms and scramble back up the ridge: elevation gain, elevation loss, elevation gain 2X the scramble.
If one has to go from East to West: more water more supplies, more energy: a double climb.
The very old GPS unit is so old it won’t hold a charge unless directly connected to mobile battery. 3 spare batteries that’s fine. Mobile offline map app on the mobile and compass. The battery on old GPS won’t hold a charge anymore unless plugged into mobile battery or a power source such as an outlet or computer. That’s why we always emphasize redundancy. It’s still fine to use plugged into 1 of 3 batteries.
