Fighting EX Layer’s newest release, Another Dash, was announced last month at the second Japanese Fighting Game Roundtable (which you can watch here). Developed by Arika, the game has seen its healthy share of DLC characters, most notably Terry Bogard. Most of the game’s roster and mechanics are very reminiscent of the forgotten Street Fighter EX series.

With characters long forgotten like Skullomania, Kairi, and Hokuto, Fighting EX Layer has its own unique identity on the market, despite it being a small one. As it is now, this game is slated to release on the Nintendo Switch. You can watch the reveal trailer for the new version below.

New Mechanics Unique to Another Dash
Fighting EX Layer Another Dash has several unique mechanics that are just outright absent from the current PS4 and PC builds of the game. For instance, EX-Dash acts as a cancel to specials, where you spend half a bar and dash forward, allowing you to continue the combo. This bears an uncanny resemblance to the Roman Cancel system that the Guilty Gear series uses. EX-Arrow is another such mechanic, where you jump in a specific jump angle that allows a long string of buttons to be pressed before landing. That mechanic looks to behave like Under Night In-Birth‘s Assault button.

EX-Illusion is where things get interesting. It’s like it has traces of Street Fighter V‘s V-Reversal system since it allows the player to spend meter to escape a block string. What we don’t know is if the way Kairi does it is unique to him, or if it behaves that exact same way for all of the characters. Cancel Break Super Cancel is another mechanic brand-new to this version. It allows you to cancel a blocked super into a guard break, which can then be followed up with a super. How it will change things in neutral remains to be seen, unfortunately.

Fighting EX Layer: Another Dash is available now on Nintendo Switch in Japan. North America has not received a release date as of now, other than mid-April.
