Fighting Fantasy: Starship Traveller - iOS - First Attempt (Blind)
A first attempt at completing the Tin Man Games port of Steve Jackson's Starship Traveller. This adventure gamebook was originally released on paperback in 1983. I did complete it as a kid but I'd forgotten everything but the basic premise.
It's the first sci-fi adventure in the primarily swords and sorcery based Fighting Fantasy series. You play the captain of an intergalactic starship, lost in space and trying to get back home. It's basically Star Trek and wears it's influence on it's sleeve.
This playthrough won't be narrated, you'll need to read along yourself. I'll be playing the same way I did as a kid, which is to reach a conclusion then re-roll and start from the beginning if I lose. Each subsequent playthrough will be slightly different, though due to the nature of gamebooks there will be sections that repeat. I'll skim over passages more and more as I go through parts I've already read multiple times, so pause if I'm going too fast. This one shouldn't need pausing as it's my first time playing through.
Gameplay involves choosing which path to take from a series of options, you go to specific pages determined by your choice e.g. turn left go to page 44 or turn right go to page 156. You also have three basic stats you roll for at the start, stamina, skill and luck. Stamina is HP and you get 12 + 2D6, skill is for hitting things and the occasional skill check, you get 6 + 1D6, luck is for luck checks, you get 6 + 1D6 and a point reduced everytime you "test your luck". In this you also roll skill and stamina for your crew plus weapons and shields for your ship (the same thing basically).
Combat is simple, you roll 2D6 which is added to your skill and your opponent does the same. Whoever has the highest total will take two points off the other's stamina, keep doing that until one of you drops dead. There are other aspects, like surrendering and multiple opponents but that's essentially the combat.
You can make bookmarks and use them as save points, I won't be doing that and will start every adventure afresh, but you might see me create a bookmark occasionally because there are a few bugs that can prevent you from progressing in certain circumstances. Every playthrough will be on classic mode.
