Sonic cameo mania on this channel continues with Sonic's appearance in Fighting Vipers. Sonic was inserted into the game as a joke, along with Tails (who acts as his 2P colour). This was shown to Yuji Naka, and led to the development of Sonic the Fighters (an inferior game that runs on a modified Fighting Vipers engine).

Sonic's moveset seems to be listed from Bahn; he also can't seem to grab. He's rather awkward to play as, but his lack of height also means he can dodge many attacks very easily.

This is a full run of his Arcade mode with no continues. However; Jane's stage was cut from the footage. Not to mask a loss (I'm not THAT desperate) but because of severe texture/lighting issues on Jane's stage.

Anyway, that's all well and good, but since there's little in the way of decent guides:

- HOW TO PLAY AS SONIC -

1) You'll need Cheat Engine. Run both it and the Fighting Vipers ROM (using the Nebula Model 2 emulator), and in CE select the emulator process.

2) Where CE says "scan", make sure in the drop down menu "Array (of bytes)" is selected, and then enter:
01 04 06 03 07 00 02 05 08 0A 07
And hit scan.

3) This bit's fiddly; right-click all the addresses with the array that appear, and change the end value (07) to 09 until you can move the cursor on character select past Picky. Pressing the insert credit button resets the character select timer, making this easier, but you can also use the test menu to reset the game without closing the emulator process.

4) Once you've edited the correct address, Sonic should show up a la the video. Tails is his 2P variant, and they're identical moves-wise.

This also gives you access to Mahler. Takashi Iizuka (current head of Sonic Team) is supposedly also somewhere in there, but expanding the character select value past Sonic crashes the game. Hm.

Next up on the Sonic cameo lightning round... I don't know. Maybe Virtua Striker 2002?
