Final Assault is a wonderful blend of RTS and MOBA combat that hade me nostalgic for my old Garden of War matches in WarCraft II. A great VR RTS to add to your collection.

When you think RTS and anything but a M/KB setup you think clunky. For the most part, that's not true in Final Assault. The controls were simple and intuitive just about everywhere. A very brief tutorial was more than enough to have me easily issuing orders to units to great effect. My only real complaint here is the lack of a multi select to give specific orders to a group of units. I'd love to see that rectified in future updates.

Again, when you think RTS, base building and resource management spring to mind. Final Assault claims to have done away with both and streamlined the process. I was a bit disappointed at this to be honest. Until I got my hands on the game and started playing. You do still get the spirit of base building and resource management. There are 'troops' that are effectively just buildings that spawn troops on a timer which feels like placing buildings in your base. For Resource management there are red X's on the map that you need to maintain control over to have a monetary advantage over your enemy. You also need to ensure that you do not exceed the resource cap so you don't waste income. All of this gave the feel or the spirit of standard RTS base/resource management. Enough to quell my disappointment and leave me happy and satisfied.

As far as locomotion goes there is only a 'grip and pull' option. I'm not the biggest fan but it gets the job done. It can be a pain to quickly get across the larger maps but it should be comfortable for all even if you do have to make repeated pulls to get where you're going.

Speaking of the maps, I liked all 3 I experienced. They seemed well balanced and reminded me of my early PC gaming in WarCraft II.

Final Assaults audio was pretty good as well. It definitely gave off the vibe of a major battle happening nearby with lots of chaos, gunfire and explosions. The subtle queues that something was happening where your commander would yell something at you about War Chests or complain about loosing troops was nicely done and very effective at being a second set of eyes on larger maps.

The games visuals definitely gave off a gritty WW II vibe. Most of the UI was very well done as well. I think the only complaint visually is the health bars. Especially the bases health bar. It looks and feels like it's still place holder UI compared to the rest of the UI.

The character customization was great though. The flag you design shows up on your base as well as your unit clipboard. The gloves give you a personal sense of identity while the character and hat represent you to your opponent. They all come together to offer a sense of progression and a reason to log in each day and play to unlock them all. It might have been nice to have more than 4 'body' selections though you rarely see this.

Overall Final Assault is definitely worth picking up if you're a RTS or MOBA fan. This is a great VR strategy game.
