With this new deathblow, I think I'll check out one of the other things that can be done now, which is finding Death Gaze. He spawns on one random square on the overworld map when you're flying the airship so this could take a while to find... holy crap never mind I found him, and then he kicked my ass and ran away...This is gonna be annoying, even if I abuse the crap out of save states and rewinds.

I do eventually get him, and the esper he drops as a reward for beating him makes it worthwhile. And yes I know I made this fight unnecessarily painful for myself by having two characters with levels that are a multiple of 5 but I didn't feel like grinding at the time.
