Final Fantasy 7 Remake Let's Play Part 1 - Bringing Down The Mako Reactor (Intro) Chapters 1 & 2
Hey folks! I hope that you are all doing well and staying safe! Final Fantasy 7 Remake is "finally" here, and for such a big fan of the original, this day has been such a long time coming, and I'm so happy that this day has finally arrived! Isolation just got a hell of a lot easier! 😁
#1 Cloud and the gang embark on a daring mission to take out the Mako reactor which Shinra is using to bleed the planet dry of Mako energy.
I first played the original FF7 in the summer of 1998, over 22 years ago (damn! I feel old! 😧). I bought the game on a whim while looking for a new game to buy with the money I earned as a kid doing chores for random people on my street. When the game first dropped in 1997, the look of the game didn't really appeal to me, as I thought it looked like a point and click adventure perhaps due to the game using pre-rendered backgrounds, and having heavy blocks of text on screen. Despite stela reviews across the board, I didn't bother to pick up the game and I just kinda forgot it existed. A year later in the summer of 1998, I saw the game going for a good price in the used section of my local games store. I decided to ask some staff about the game, and most said it was one of the best games that they've ever played and assured me that FFVII was not a point and click adventure. I thought, "what the hell" and bought the game. When I first started to play FF7 I said: "WTF is this?!" Final Fantasy 7 was the first time that I had ever experienced the turn-based battle system. Not being able to freely move and attack an enemy at any time I wanted to was absolutely alien to me. After playing the game for about an hour, I had enough (mainly due to the battle system). I planned to take the game back and get a refund the next day, but just before I went to bed, I decided to give it another go. All of a sudden, I could hear the sound of birds chirping, and could see the glow of the morning sun creeping between my curtains, I literally spent 10 hours straight playing Final Fantasy 7... I was hooked!
It took a while to get into the turn-based battle system, but once I got the hang of it, I fell in love with the strategic elements turn-based battling offered. The next day, my best friend at the time, came over and I decided to gladly start the game again just so we could both spend all our summer holidays playing this amazing masterpiece of a game. This was the first game that I had ever played which seemed like the developers managed to create a real living, breathing world. I had never seen a game of this scale before that time, it was simply breathtaking! The characters, the story, the music (literally my favourite video game score of all time!), and the sheer scale and length of this game were astonishing, created with great attention to detail and sublime craftsmanship. Final Fantasy wasn't just a game, it was the first game I ever considered art. After spending a fairly reclusive summer playing countless hours on FF7, it was strangely a game I couldn't bring myself to complete. Me and my friend got to Sephiroth, and that was it, we stopped. I guess we didn't want the game to end or something... I don't know, we were only like 10 years old at the time. Maybe we thought we were letting go of a world that felt real to us if we completed it. 😅
After we stopped playing Final Fantasy VII, all we wanted to do was jump straight into another JRPG. FF7 was the first JRPG that we ever played, so we were excited to see what other games the genre had to offer. However, sadly, at that time in the UK, Final Fantasy 7 was pretty much the only JRPG around. I was very saddened to find out that all previous games in the franchise (1 through 6) were not released in the UK or the rest of Europe (PAL Territory) to the best of my knowledge. However, thanks to the popularity of Final Fantasy 7, other franchises started making their way to the UK such as Breath of Fire, Dragon Quest, Suikoden, the Tales games, and many more. Through the late 90s to the mid-2000s, all I mainly played was JRPG's, and it was all thanks to FF7. If it wasn't for FF7, we may have not seen JRPG's come over to the UK until a lot later. Without a doubt, Final Fantasy 7 was one of the best games which I have ever had the joy of playing, and probably still sits at #1 on my best games of all-time list. The game had such a profound impact on me as a kid, and definitely helped plant the seed of wanting to pursue some kind of career in the gaming industry. I am now an aspiring coder, and I have been learning game development for a few years now, and also, thanks to Nobuo Uematsu San's amazing FF scores through the years, he has inspired me to also make music for video games. Please stay tuned for upcoming projects by myself in the not so distant future. I will always remember the summer of 98 as the summer of Final Fantasy 7, and oh what a summer it was! 😎 (If you actually read all that, you are insane! 🤣 Just Kidding!
