Recap: After having trained up a bit, the warriors return to the terra cavern and obliterate the vampire who was hiding out there. However, defeating him didn't stop the earth from rotting as predicted by the residents of Melmond. Feeding the vampire's gemstone to the titan opens the way to a sage who provides an item that allows travel deeper into the terra cavern, where they find Lich, the first of four chaos fiends. Defeating him allows the earth crystal to be restored, which stops the rotting of the earth and begins restoring Melmond to its former beauty.

Having nowhere else to go, the party finds a circle of 12 sages hiding just outside the remote town of Crescent Lake, and are provided with a canoe that allows them to visit Mount Gulg, where the second chaos fiend is holed up. After a harrowing descent that nearly kills them, the warriors manage to find and defeat Marilith, allowing them to restore the fire crystal.
