Story recap: The party enters the Sealed Cave in order to retrieve the crystal and move it to a safer location. Golbez is conspicuously absent, making them uneasy. They disarm the traps guarding the crystal and are about to leave with it, when Golbez renews his mind control on Kain. Kain takes the crystal and leaves, allowing Golbez to complete his collection.

With all eight crystals gathered, the Tower of Babil is activated. The party's last hope lies with the ancient Mysidian legend. Traveling to Mysidia, their prayers are answered, as the Lunar Whale, an ancient starship, rises out of the sea. They take it to the moon and meet Fusoya the Lunarian, who tells them that another Lunarian named Zemus is behind Golbez's actions. Zemus wishes to eradicate all life on the blue planet, and is using the crystals to summon the Giant of Babil, an ancient being of destruction. He joins the party, and the group hurries back to the planet to try to stop the giant.
