Final Fantasy Part 13: Loving the Mermaid/Killing the Kraken at the Sea Shrine - Old Men Gaming
With the power of Oxyale (similar to OxyClean?) we travel to Onrac and take a dive to the sunken temple, where we suffer no ill effects of being underwater. We are also whiter, and not in a racially insensitive way.
We climb to the top floor, collecting awesome items, finding the SLAB, and meeting some mermaids. I know there are limitation to 8-bit graphics, which is why top nudity must be fine. I imagined the boobs that were clearly visible.
Since we have a handy spell called exit, we return to town, heal up, then go back to the temple and make our way down, collecting more goodies and smacking everything we could with lightning. We do have to say goodbye to awesome armor, as we were over capacity. But we have to make space for pretty ribbons. Ribbons that grant protection from pretty much all status attacks.
Unlike other places, we could be burning magic faster. But since this is a water temple and we have the LIT2-casting Aeus gauntlet, everything is getting fried quick. And since we also have a wizard that can crack half a dozen or so LIT2 spell, plus LIT3, and a healer that can heal us literally every round, we are feeling little pain.
Our spirits are not even dampened when we face the tentacle party that is the Kracken. He goes down in a few rounds (even though he can donkey punch like there’s no tomorrow and hits everyone EXCEPT Magg).
Returning to town, we crawl across the overland stupidity this game lives for, take to the air, go to Melmond, learn Lefeinish from the slab, then make the other stupid overland journey to Lefein, where we get a stupid chime for the Mirage tower.
We also learn about their five warriors who were turned into bats by the great evil that unleashed the fiends.
There are five bats in the Temple of Fiends, north of Coneria, literally in the center of the map, were we fought Garland at the beginning of the game.
Something makes me think we’re going there soon.
But nest time, it’s the Mirage Tower, a floating castle, and Tiamat, who will probably be more badass than in the 80’s D&D cartoon….
