Final Fantasy save points explained | Game Discourses
In this episode we look at the increasingly out-moded save points in video games and specifically Final Fantasy. Once an innovative facet of game design ushered in during Final Fantasy IV, the save point has since become largely obsolete as JRPG design adopts traits of western action RPG titles, such as autosave features. Here we consider the aesthetic design and symbolism of save points in Final Fantasy, along with their increasing functions for sidequests etc as the games went on.
