Ruby is a total pain without cheese and takes absolutely forever to kill because of its ridiculous defensive stats. Initially, I tried this strat without using Cross-slash spam but my dps was too low and Yuffie would get whirlsanded out of the battle. I actually had Hades on standby but didn't use him. Not actually a difficult fight once you drain it's MP and eliminate the threat of Shadow Flare and Ultima. Ruby Ray is the only attack left that can actually kill. A whirlsand-less Ruby Weapon would be a total pushover.
