About the Original:
🎼 Eyes on Me is a beautifully emotional ballad from Final Fantasy VIII, written by Nobuo Uematsu and sung by the amazing Faye Wong. It was actually the first vocal theme ever used in a Final Fantasy game, and it quickly became iconic.
The song plays a big part in the story—it's written by the in-game character Julia, and it reflects her feelings for Laguna. But beyond the game, it struck a chord with fans thanks to its heartfelt lyrics and simple, touching melody.
When it came out in 1999, it was a huge hit, selling over 500,000 copies in Japan and even winning “Song of the Year” at the Japan Gold Disc Awards. It’s still one of the most loved songs in the entire Final Fantasy series.
