The basics of group play for tanks is relatively the same here in FFXIV but mechanically it will feel very different from other mmos. Personally I was an end game raid tank in WoW back in BC, but heck I can have trouble holding aggro on the first few guildhests if I mess up.

One thing I kind of neglected to mention is, as a tank you have 2 jobs essentially. 1: Have everything you pulled hitting you, and 2: Mitigate as much damage as you can. Why? Well common sense, that and it frees up your healer to dps which makes the whole thing take less time so you take less damage naturally.

If you're having trouble holding aggro, upgrade your weapon. It sounds miniscule but considering our skills enmity scales off our weapon damage and str, it DOES make a difference. Also at the start of a boss fight, popping fight or flight for the extra damage/ enmity is a good idea too.

Bottom line is, don't worry you'll get better as you go. We all start somewhere. Tanking is an important role, many times groups will look to you to lead dungeon runs. Just don't pull too much at once and you should be fine. If someone else pulls FOR you (you don't want that generally), then try and peel it off them. Which can be challenging until provoke.

For anyone interested I'm playing on Hyperion. Good luck out there in Eorzea!
