Hiya everyone, it's The Penguin Keyblader here! It was on this day, back in 2019, I played the game called Final Fantasy XIV Online for the very first time. January 14th, 2019 was the very first day I got to create and play my beautiful almost default character who I love so much. The PlayStation 2019 Wrap Up was released today (January 14th, 2020) and I saw how many hours I spent on FF14. The number is very very high...3371 to be exact...but I do not care about the number. No, the number does not bother me, yes that is a very high number for one game, yea my second-highest game didn't even hit 100, none of that matters to me. The story of how I came to play 14 is one I don't always share and I will do so now...
It was sometime last year, November-ish. I was looking at my YouTube and a recommended video popped up. It was by Mekkah Dee and it was named "FFXIV OST Azys Lla Theme (Order Yet Undeciphered)". I was curious as to why it popped up, I had never watched anything related to FF14 before but I decided I'd listen to it. I was hooked instantly. I listened to more of the OST and was very curious about 14. My friend, Burrito (in-game) had the game and showed it to me. I was hooked instantly. I knew that this was a game I wanted to play. So I asked for it as my Christmas present and that was what it was, yes, that Christmas my present was the Final Fantasy XIV Online Complete Edition. But there was a problem, my game didn't come with a registration code. We sent it back and waited for a new one. I continued to listen to the OST while I waited for a new copy. It took some time but I got a new one but the same thing occurred, there was no registration code (do NOT trust Walmart). We finally went and physically picked up a game and I registered it and sat down to play, excited that I was finally playing an MMO game. It was a rough start and very much a noob effort as I had no idea what I was doing...but it didn't matter, I was playing a game I knew I would enjoy, and enjoy it I did.
Flash forward to now, the one year anniversary of me playing the game. I may have had a rough start as a sprout, but here I am, now a mentor who has almost maxed out every class. I have met many people and made many friends in this game. I have joined communities and met people I would have NEVER met if I didn't have that interest in 14 way back when I first saw that video pop up. So why do I say this? Because when I started, if I had known that I would be spending 3371 hours on a single video game that would bring me to some very amazing people (Niho, Zepla, Cee, Catpa, Riss, Nipah, Endy, Surfi and all the people I can't list because it would never end) then I would gladly, GLADLY spend those hours doing the exact same thing and that is playing a game I love.
I look forward to supporting Final Fantasy 14 in the future and will gladly continue to play my favorite game of all time.
