With the release of Final Fantasy XV I decided to give it the dansg08 movie treatment, playing through with no HUD. As usual, please read below for some common questions/answers.

1. When will the series be completed?
I don't know, I am also doing a commentary playthrough of the game. I am working through the commentary version first so that I know the game a little better for when I'm recording the movie version. I always do 2 playthroughs because that's the only way I can focus on making it the best cinematic experience possible. You'll have to check my channel page or keep updating the playlist to find new episodes.

2. Where are the subtitles?
I usually always make these movies with subtitles where possible (since late 2013 anyway) but I made an exception here. Not having subs allows me to edit much more easily and use some trickery to change the position of certain bits of sound/dialogue without having the subtitles give it away or clash with something else. This game has a fair few on-screen things that overlap and break immersion so not having subs gives me a clean image to work from. For games that feature multiple companions that have dialogue during gameplay not having to match up the subtitles is a huge advantage. In an ideal world I will write subs for this version and have them available for viewers via the subtitles/cc section. Remember, you can also submit subtitles for the video if you want to help.

3. Why have you used X track here instead of the original?
I've recorded without the music on to make cuts and transitions smoother, when the bgm is on it creates a jump in the music when you cut and even if you crossfade it still isn't very nice to work with, so I add the OST tracks back in in post. I try to always match up whatever the original game has but occasionally I will do something slightly different.

4. Why don't you show X, why are you showing Y?
I've always just shown what I feel helps the game flow. If for example a game event takes place the next day I will try to show things that may not be essential to the story but that help fill that passage of time so that there isn't a large time jump. I want to stay away from a simple cut/paste of the game's cutscenes and dialogue because anyone can do that and it's not very creative. I try my best to really give something in between that and a non-commentary walkthrough. I try to include every single bit of dialogue the game throws at us (I'll be trying to find all the scenes I can, I'm still new to the game), some travel between cutscenes/dialogue scenes/quests and some quick highlights from battles when possible. If you think I cut too much out, try a longer movie or just a no commentary walkthrough, if you think I didn't cut enough, there's plenty of shorter versions out there I'm sure.

5. Why didn't you disable all of the pop-ups?
I turned off everything possible, including the HUD (playing without it is quite tough!), but some things seem to be unavoidable, and I always try to see if I can edit around it, but if I can't I just leave it in. This is as clean as I could get it without sacrificing too much. You will see certain areas where it's very clear that it's either a choice of removing that scene entirely or living with what comes up on the screen :)

6. Marathon Version?
Yes, when the individual parts are all finished.
