Final Fantasy XVI takes the series in a bold new direction that makes for a stellar action, whilst simultaneously being a watered down weak RPG of a game. Final Fantasy XVI has an enthralling narrative and more of the more memorable Final Fantasy protagonists we've seen in the series in over a decade. The world of Valisthea is one of conflict and politics, and it is host to the more darker narrative at play, that unfolds over Final Fantasy XVI's 40 hour adventure. The Gear Progression, and Exploration may feel weak and may feel inconsequential at times, but overall the broader narrative and writing of Final Fantasy XVI is fantastic, coupled with a functional and competent action-combat model that provides a creative new way to experience Final Fantasy games and a great foundation and starting point for where the series could go. The flipside with this new direction is what can feel like an abandonment of many RPG aspects of the series and meaningful progression that can at times feel like a justification for side content without offering anything meaningful. Overall Final Fantasy XVI is an great experience in most of its departments that matter, and despite its flaws still manages to provide one of the more enjoyable experiences I've had with the series from the recent entries. I do believe that this approach given some refinements to its RPG elements could be a way forward for Square with this series. The short answer is yes I liked Final Fantasy XVI and do recommend it and if you're on the fence suggest at least trying the demo.
