Red Dead Redemption 2 / RDR2, Finally Blackwater money found, total 150K | Mystery solved
In chapter 6, at the end of Red Dead Redemption mission, Abigail will give Dutch’s chest key to Arthur, which she had stolen. She also mentioned that the chest is hidden under a wagon in the cave of beaver hollow.
After that, when both John and Arthur were escaping for survival, Arthur was given 2 options, Help John Get to Safety or Return for the Money.
If Arthur choose to save John then after sometime Arthur will realize that he cannot run further, he will give his hat and the satchel to John which is full of his collections and journals. That includes all the gold bars, jewellery, herbs, maps, newspapers, etc. except cash money and the chest key. Why chest key was not given, I will explain in a while.
Post American venom mission, after killing Micah, John will enter the cabin to get all the money from the chest in mount hagen. John’s share of that money is approximately 20418. Now if we consider the money was shared equally by Sadie, Charles, Uncle, Abigail the total amount retrieved from the cabin is around 100 thousand dollars. But the newspaper scrap, found in Micah’s camp, says that Dutch gang escaped with 150 thousand dollars. So where is the rest of 50 thousand dollars gone.
post beating the game John was expected to meet personally with Mary Beth in Valentine and Tilly Jackson in Saint Denis. If John shared the money with them as well equally and half with Jack, then the total money retrieved from the cabin will be 150 thousand dollars, which the money from blackwater. Which solves the Mistry of blackwater money.
Now, second question, why Arthur didn’t give Dutch’s chest key to John. Lets’s consider, Arthur return for the money without saving John. In this case, Arthur will reach to the camp and go to the cave. He will find the chest with 42875, which eventually will be taken by Micah. No way, this money can be shared between John, Sadie and Charles, unless John claims 50%. In this case, blackwater money Mistry will remain unsolved.
I tried both the options was given to Arthur. The interesting part here is if Arthur chooses to save John. Post beating the game John returns to beaver hollow, killed all the Murfrees and enter into the cave. The chest can be found as is under the wagon. Looks like no one touched it since 1899. But no way we can interact with the chest. That means John had everything was given by Arthur except the chest key, otherwise 42875 dollars would also be added to his account. This solves the second point, Arthur did not share the chest key with John.
