Finest Fable, A First Crack Early Look!
4What does it mean to be a hero...? Not stealing the drink of a fired royal guard, for one. And if you do? Hero or not, teen or adult, you're gettin' kicked in the face.
Finest Fable is a wonderful project that completely flips the standard video game hero journey around. And throws dirt in its eyes. And probably does something inspired by alcohol-induced incontinence on its shoes. The story follows a nameless former member of the Royal Guard who failed in his duties to protect the princess and now spends his time getting as drunk as he can. After getting interrupted by some random loudmouth, the latest Legendary Hero of Light appears, says some really random, unhelpful things, and then steals the main character's drink on the way out. Which, of course, earns the hero an unexpected enemy for life. The main character swears to a specifically boot-in-face style of revenge against the hero, whatever that might mean for the world, and sets off on the most random journey to hunt down the kid that stole his drink. He meets allies, faces kissing snakes, helps people without really wanting to, and is aggressively hungover and unpleasant at people along the way.
Two things that came up while editing:
First, I now realize what's written on Jake's sword and what it means (but I'm not saying it so people reading this before watching don't get TOO spoiled). Second, while I playing I totally forgot what Wam's passive ability is and after seeing it again during editing, how to use him in battle makes a lot more sense. I still don't understand how to use some of his abilities, but I get a basic playstyle for him and I get why he did so well in that battle at the end.
