Chapter 5 offers no new characters so just use it to level the ones you have. Rutger only came to use at level 4, despite having better base stats than Dieck, so he can gain levels pretty fast and become even better. He and other sword users are also really good her because of the abundance of axe wielders.

Use them to advance slowly, stopping to deal with units that chase you. Again, don't fight more units at once than you have to. You can use the Forts as a good stopping point to bunker down and take out the enemy advancing party.

Be careful of the brigands in this stage, because they can climb the mountains to reach you. And a TON of them appear as reinforcements from almost all of the Fort tiles on this map, so they can easily surround you. Use Rutger, Dieck, Marcus, Alan, and Lance all with swords to hold them off. Stand on Forest tiles to lower their accuracy so much they will pretty much never hit. Keep your weaker units in the center with those 5 units covering the front and back. Once reinforcements stop flowing in you can advance on the boss.

The boss is an axe wielder, so Rutger and Dieck can take care of him. In fact, just assume Rutger can defeat every boss in the game because I can tell you right now I'll be recommending you to use him on every boss in the game.
