There we go, Firefighter FD 18.
Playing the game from loaded data enables Very Hard mode and you can play it again to get a higher ranking than Beginner. I don't know if it also unlocks 27 hidden cutscenes, but I'm not about to play through this game to find out.
This game was sort of weird at first. I thought it was gonna be a principled firefighting game, but the boss in 1-1C got me hooked.
I then wrote it off for other games (I was going to play this last year), but ultimately the concept of "Maleficent Propane" got me laughing enough (on the inside) to see what else this game had to offer.
Topics remaining up for discussion:
Why does Senator Blackwell only acknowledge that Dean saved his life whilst being carried out by Dean and Craig? If he acknowledged Craig, would Dean not have to fight the senator alone?
Do the actors/actresses get that much freedom to ad lib the lines or were they just done from memory?
What sorcery is involved in the creation of the bosses? It doesn't seem like Hunt, or any arsonist, is able to conjure up an evil flame demon that preferentially shoots flames at a human.
Certain enemies appear non-sentient, such as the spicule, which just comes off of certain flames occasionally, greater fire orbs, wall flares, and ceiling flames...
Certain enemies were obviously planted there, such the Moderately Inimical Vacuums and the Reaper of Firefighters' Souls, which can be explained by Hunt (they don't appear in stage 4-6).
The following enemies are complete witchcraft: Juggling flames, duchess flames, ceiling wires (and everything else that falls from the ceiling as Dean passes by), proxy barrels, maleficent propane, and demonic whirligigs.
Hunt's plan is to kill a firefighter with a fire. This would be like trying to kill a toxicologist with poisonous snakes: sure, it might work, but a gun would work better.
Sen. Blackwell hires a bodyguard to kill his nemesis Hunt while he is wounded, but takes away his gun to kill a lesser threat and more able-bodied Dean without a gun. Also, Sen. Blackwell yells die while pointing his gun, but does not shoot.
Hunt's only benefit to being a firefighter is knowing that Dean and Emilie are kinda close instead of, you know, killing him when the two of them are alone (i.e. when climbing up the stairs). Whatever, Hunt isn't the sharpest tool in the shed and probably ran out of bullets shooting his computer.
Why does Sen. Blackwell have a gun, but Sen. Blackwell's bodyguard not have one? If that was the bodyguard's gun, why does Sen. Blackwell take his bodyguard's gun?
Where does the senator's gun come from when he falls from the helicopter ladder to the side of the building, both actions requiring use of both hands.
Hunt dares Dean to the events of World 4 with Emilie's life at stake and only shows up with a flamethrower? Who fights a firefighter with a flamethrower? That's like fighting a lab technician with battery acid: he's equipped to resist this type of attack!
Murphy and Sen. Blackwell both die to Dean's sharp blade of Karma, but Dean actually kills the bodyguard who killed Hunt... well, to be more specific, the bodyguard probably lost consciousness and died in the resulting fire. I'm pretty sure Dean killed the bodyguard. That's probably gonna come up later during one of the many inquiries into all of these fires.
Best song: 4-6B, but 1-1A is a pretty good stage-setter.
The sun only exists at the end of the game; everything else in the game is held at night.
Emilie is Schrodinger's survivor in 4-3A: she dies until you determine that you can't rescue her which causes her to live.
Watch out for gas leaks. ಠ_ಠ
Why are the cans of spray paint so ominously out of place?
(⊙‿⊙) Why would Hunt place them in that arrangement?
