Alright, past me. You want a rant? Here's a rant:

It's been over a year, but my stance hasn't really changed. It is blatantly obvious GameFreak is cutting as many corners as they can in order to pump out a new game every year (which is honestly the real issue here), and I guess the only corners left to cut for Sword and Shield were the pokemon themselves. And it's not like the final product turned out to be anything noteworthy, even after the DLC, which just makes it sting more. I accept that, eventually, something like this would have to happen. All the future-proofing in the world isn't going to help when you have to pour over over 2,000 different models and textures and sounds to make sure everything works. But if they wanted to do something like this, S&S was the worst possible time to do it. Moving from the 3DS to the many times stronger Switch, peoples expectations were high, yet they release a game that is effectively an HD 3DS game, with less content than a game made for the DS. If they wanted to not bring every single pokemon back ever game, that's fine. But they should have done it in X&Y, when they needed to make every model from scratch. Maybe then they could have put more effort into making the games more than mediocre...
