Firmware Frenzy Shenanigans #10 - Greekrock RC1 Primeval Upheaval
After pootising around while waiting for players we unfortunately lost an essential part of our team.
Thankfully we also had someone in the game prior who I happened to know from the MvM Subforums.
I did some location scouting around the map and found a neat place under some stairs.
While we were waiting and I was goofing around I just so happened to forget to buy any upgrades. A minor inconvenience.
Wave 2 was progressing fairly smoothly when I suddenly got blasted by a Direct Hit Rocket at 8:44 that just so happened to one shot me despite myself having full health, not being airborne, the rocket itself not being crit boosted and the bot not having any bonus damage beyond the weapon bonus itself but the killfeed somehow still displaying it as a crit hit of some sort.
The only explanation I could come to is that the rocket got retroactively crit boosted after the Giant Direct Hit Soldier actually received crits from his attached Medic.
It doesnt make sense whatsoever but thats all I can think of.
Wave 3 is bringing the heat so its even more important to keep your cool.
At 13:13 I shield into a milked Giant Scout with 24HP and somehow get hit by something inflicting 15 points of damage.
Once again no clue what happened there.
Wave 4 looks to be a smooth ride but the oppressive Engibot spam paired with Ubered Giants created an unfavorable situation.
The Giant Pyros are also carrying a Buff Banner which I couldnt even make out during the game and is barely visible looking at the wave bar symbol.
Wave 5 turned quickly into a struggle to keep our ground with the majority of the team being busy with the tank or otherwise disappearing.
After getting a taste of every damage type imaginable I decided it was time to perform a strategic retreat. Thankfully we had plenty of map to fall back to.
At this point I would like to sincerely apologize to the Scout for creating a pile of money in front that was basically unreachable.
This was entirely our fault.
Wave 6 got quite a bit furious with us as we tried to quell the Giant Scout menace from delivering their fish sticks.
Unfortunately I made a bad decision here when I was trying to cut into the Giant Medic healing the Giant Heavy with my shield.
Ultimately resulting in myself being knocked away, giving up the protection that my shield could have provided and worst of all being disconnected from healing Erikku, completing the collapse of the entire frontline.
Wave 7 looks quite imposing with its 3 Tanks and 26 Giants, of which one has the special feature of an exclamation point but dont worry its not as bad as it looks. In fact I'd say its much, much worse.
So put your fire retardant pants on and strap yourselves in. Its going to be wild rocket ride.
A few closing thoughts on a couple of things I noticed.
Our Soldier and Demo were not really up to the task.
I didnt check their upgrades because I didnt really care but to me it seems that the Soldier knew how resistances work but couldnt get his weapon upgrades quite in order to make his increased survivability actually worth it.
Whereas it seems that it was the complete opposite for the Demo. He was out of position so many times and couldnt take the heat he was getting, resulting in his death more than I would have liked.
His performance overall was still better despite his increased death state but having a clip size of 16 does suggest that he did not invest into sufficient resistances.
The Engineer seemed to struggle quite a bit. Maybe he invested too much into upgrades that werent beneficial to him.
I do believe he had some resistances but was also hard pressed to keep his buildings around.
When Heavies buy Ammo Canteens its usually a bad sign for your Dispenser up time.
I think I could have supported the Scout a bit more when it came to providing juice for tank busting. I had never played with them before but I do know that they are a capable player based on our interactions on the MvM subforum alone.
I didnt get to play a lot of this campaign and that might be related to the rough start I had going into this event but from what I played I can safely say that this mission was definitely the most enjoyable out of all of them.
