▬▬▬▬▬▬ GAME INFORMATION ▬▬▬▬▬▬
The Novelist -- a game about life, family, and the choices we make.
Novelist Dan Kaplan has decided to take his family on vacation in the hopes of not only reconnecting with them, but also defeating his crippling writer's block. His agent wants him to complete his promised novel while Dan's wife Linda wants to work on their failing marriage and develop a career as an artist. During all of this Dan and Linda's sensitive and incredibly lonely son Tommy is desperate to gain his father's attention by way of several crayon drawings.
The Novelist asks one central question: can you achieve your dreams without pushing away the people you love? The game focuses on Dan Kaplan, a novelist struggling to write the most important book of his career while trying to be the best husband and father he can be. The Kaplans have come to a remote coastal home for the summer, unaware that they’re sharing the house with a mysterious ghostly presence: you.
Read the family’s thoughts. Explore their memories. Uncover their desires and intervene in their lives. But stay out of sight; you can’t help the Kaplans if they know there’s a ghost in the house. It’s up to you to decide how Dan’s career and family life will evolve, but choose carefully; there are no easy answers, and every choice has a cost.
Dan’s relationships – to his work, his wife, and his son – react and shift in response to your choices. With a different sequence of events in every playthrough, The Novelist gives life to a unique experience each time you play.
The decisions you make will define the Kaplans’ lives, but they may also tell you something about yourself.
In the Novelist, it's possible to choose between two gameplay modes: stealth and story. The two are relatively similar. In storytelling mode the player chooses the direction they want the game's plot to proceed by making several choices that would impact one or more of the Kaplans. Information about the characters' desires and secrets are revealed through a series of diaries, letters, and pictures hidden throughout the Kaplans' vacation home. Players can also learn additional data by accessing the characters' memories at various points in the game. During this mode the player can be seen, but this aspect does not have any impact on the gameplay. Stealth adds a gameplay element, where if the Kaplans are able to see you (the spirit) wandering around the house if in line of view. This can be avoided by going behind the characters' backs or by possessing light fixtures. If you are seen, they will become suspicious and spooked out and you will become unable to choose their compromise in the next chapter. Story mode removes the limitation of this gameplay element and you are free to wander and explore around the house. In this particular let's play gameplay of The Novelist, we will be using Stealth mode to add a bit of a gameplay challenge.

The Novelist is created by Kent Hudson, who previously spent a decade working on AAA games like Deus Ex: Invisible War and BioShock 2.
The Novelist is a narrative, story-based game with minimal "flashy" graphics in the veins of something like Gone Home or Dear Esther.
