First Impressions On: Far Cry 3

On this episode of First Impressions, I take a look at this open world shooter set on a tropical island paradise. You play as Jason Brody, a white college boy with rich parents who is trying to rescue his equally rich friends from pirates. The group was captured by the pirates during their vacation, after they decide to skydive onto a pirate infested island.
If the protagonist and his friends sound like awful people, it's because at the beginning of the game, they are. But as Jason grows to enjoy murdering pirates and estranges himself from his friends, he develops an actual character arc that makes him much more tolerable.
Unlike Far Cry 2, the open world part of the game has a whole lot more for you to do this time around, in between rescuing rich kids. There are Assassin's Creed style towers to climb and reveal more of the map, animals to hunt and skin, new bags to be crafted, outposts to be captured, poker to be played, and sharks to be eaten by. Finally, there's also a co-op story and competitive multiplayer, if you're in to that sort of thing.
