[★★★★★ - Top of My List]

I'm not normally a fan of Metroidvania shooters. But this one has enough going on besides just dodge and twitchy-finger-on-the-fire-button that I enjoyed it very much. You play an alien in a flying saucer who is trying to save his planet from a tentacular infestation. There are puzzles, none of which are especially deep or difficult, but there is at least something there that breaks you out of the mindless shoot-and-move thing and makes you think for a second. And I like that it's true 2D, not 1D with the occasional jump as a temporary second dimension of movement. I like unlocking upgrades and different ways of accomplishing tasks. So as far as the sidescroller Metroidvania games go, this one is the top of my list.
