First time playing Mass Effect Legendary Edition | ME1 Review
Reviewing Mass Effect Legendary Edition from the perspective of a first time player.
Mass Effect Legendary Edition is a compilation of the video games in the Mass Effect trilogy: Mass Effect, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3. It was developed by BioWare with assistance from Abstraction Games and Blind Squirrel Games, and published by Electronic Arts.
I am a first time player, sort of. I do own the original series, but I never got around to actually playing them beyond booting them up and checking them out for a bit.
Music 4/5
The music is pretty good and really sets the tone for the story and gameplay.
It makes the world feel lived in and alive. However there are games that have music that are in a whole other realm in comparison.
Graphics 3/5
The graphics are definitely a step up from the original game, however the character models are still the same, and it shows. When compared to other modern games of today, the graphics do not quite match, but can be easily overlooked and appreciated when it comes to upgrading an old game.
Story 5/5
Mass Effect is most notably known for its absolutely massive and interesting story. Sprawling an entire galaxy over the course of 3 games, with many different alien species with their own problems and politics. Even after so much time the vastness and complexity of the story is difficult for new games to match.
Characters 5/5
Mass Effect’s characters are incredibly crafted and brought to life through talented voice acting. Characters have back story, motivations, faults. They interact with each other and can affect the outcome of the story.
Cinematography 4/5
One thing that makes this game stand out as a masterpiece is the cinematography. Even with such a dated game, it holds up to modern standards. It’s impressive knowing the age of the original game. The graphics of Legendary Edition really give the cinematography even more depth.
Gameplay 5/5
The gameplay is another place where Mass Effect really shines. From compelling dialog choices that affect the outcome of the story, to RPG elements that bring depth to character customization and capability, gameplay is well rounded and engaging throughout the game.
