Five Nights at Freddy's" is a supernatural horror film adaptation of the popular video game series created by Scott Cawthon. The film sees Josh Hutcherson in the role of Mike, a young man haunted by past traumas, who takes on a job as a night guard at the eerie Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria. The animatronics in the pizzeria come alive at night, leading Mike into a series of harrowing events. These animatronics were brought to life by the renowned Jim Henson's Creature Shop. Despite mixed reviews, the film was a box office success, breaking records for its production company, Blumhouse.
The story follows Mike, a troubled young man who's desperate for work to maintain custody of his 10-year-old sister, Abby. He takes a night security job at Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria, only to realize that the animatronics at the establishment have sinister plans. With the help of Vanessa, a police officer, they delve deep into the mysteries of the pizzeria, leading to unexpected horrors.
The film's journey began with Warner Bros. acquiring its rights in 2015. After multiple delays, script changes, and shifts in production companies, the project landed with Blumhouse Productions in 2017. With several script revisions and scheduling shifts, the final version of the movie began production in February 2023, under the direction of Emma Tammi. The film wrapped up in April 2023 and was released in October of the same year.
