%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items

If you are still getting
Windows 10 file explorer not responding

Try this:

Open command prompt with admin and run sfc /scannow
Lets that finish and then run
DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Scanhealth && DISM /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Let that complete and then re-run sfc /scannow

Just for you command prompt junkies, here are some commands to do this via command prompt

del %appdata%\microsoft\windows\recent\automaticdestinations\*

del %AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent\CustomDestinations\*

del %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Recent Items\*
