I take an Acer Aspire V3-551G-X419 laptop with the latest 2.14 BIOS, and flash a new BIOS that contains more settings and functionality.

In order to use such a BIOS on this laptop, you need to follow the steps needed to do a recovery flash. This recovery flash procedure may also be possible on other computers that use Insyde BIOS (but make sure to use a BIOS for that specific computer).

The diskpart part is how I prepare most flash drives, usually for OS installations; the process deletes the partition tables from the drive (all data erased), creates a new partition table with a single partition, formats that partition to FAT32, flags it for boot, and assigns it a drive letter.

Some of the default settings were non-optimal, such as forcing the use of a Legacy ROM for the SATA controller while using UEFI boot instead of the UEFI ROM, having _OSC disabled, and always having Legacy USB mode enabled.

This laptop is also truly muxless, and flashing a custom BIOS will not allow you to set the dGPU as primary.

Should also note that doing such a BIOS flash does not erase the BIOS password, at least with this particular laptop.
