Flashing Dark - A Lighthouse Horror That Burns Out in the Final Act
Flashing Dark is an atmospheric first-person horror game that puts you in the shoes of a lighthouse keeper stationed at a remote outpost. Your job seems simple—maintain the lighthouse, keep the light shining, and stay vigilant. But as the days pass, strange occurrences begin to unsettle your routine. Unexplained noises, eerie messages, and the growing sense that something is watching you create a tense psychological experience. The mystery builds steadily, drawing you deeper into the haunting story of the island.
At first, Flashing Dark does a fantastic job of immersing the player in its unsettling world, blending psychological horror with slow-burn storytelling. However, as the game reaches its final act, the narrative takes an unexpected turn—one that, in my experience, feels disconnected from everything that came before. The psychological buildup and story elements seem to unravel, leaving me confused and disappointed. What started as a gripping horror experience ultimately loses its cohesion, making for an unsatisfying conclusion.
If you’re considering playing Flashing Dark, or if you’ve already experienced its mind-bending final act, let’s discuss—did the ending work for you, or were you as lost as I was? Drop your thoughts in the comments!
