A last-ditch effort to save this tool from being discarded - a success! Careful application of hot air to the ribbon cable of the LCD seems to mend the ever-common issue with horizontal lines appearing all over the screen.

The cause of the issue seems to be warpage of the LCD PCB over time, causing the adhesive of the flat-flex cable to fail.
