FOAMSTARS | Trying Out Not Splatoon
2Trying out FoamStars to see how it compares to Splatoon. it feels really similar with some differences, mostly in how you win a match as well as not being KO'ed right away. instead you are "foamed up" and your team can save you or the opposing team could KO (or "chill") you. you also surf on the foam and use the foam to build up vertically to be able to maneuver through the levels of Bath Vegas. These games are called FoamSmash, and are meant to be played for fun.
Your hub area is the MillionStar Hotel.
I went through the training, checking out the plaza area, changed characters, and played my first match. The character I changed to, Agito, stylized as ΔGITO, also has a little shark buddy named Kirimaru, stylized as KIRIMΔRU. Then play my first match called "Smash the Star".
The gameplay and motion controls feel a lot like Splatoon, especially with motion controls turned on for aiming. The foam and bubbles building up three dimensionally is an interesting change to Splatoon and takes the place of being able to squid form up the painted walls in that game.
The opening cinematic also shows something called the "Foam of Fame" which I wonder if that is a thing in game or something just for the cinematic.
The game seemed to get stuck for an extended period on the Player Award screen after the match and it didn't seem like I could send any stamps in that screen, though maybe I was and you choose what your stamp is outside of there. I'm not sure.
I think the game feels good control wise even though I'm not great at it, but I'm curious to try it out more.
