On June 20, 2023, I lost a dear friend and Spirit Brother, who made his transition on that day and was suffering. I was at North Bend Camping and my other dear Spirit Brother, Walkingstar called and said that "Thunder", the name I called him because of his deep voice and said that Rick/Thunder is not doing well and would be passing soon. So my instincts told me to grab my flute and play for his crossing over. As I played, a thunder storm rolled in with heavy rain and loud thunder. So I stood at the edge of the water and played for "Thunder", to help cross him over. To be with him in that moment even though I was hundreds of miles away. I played for about 30 minutes while it poured and thundered. The rain started to slow until it stopped and the clouds parted and the sun revealed its light and warmth with powerful rays. At that moment my phone rang...it was Walkingstar on the phone telling me that Thunder had just passed.
Dear Brother Thunder, words can never express, the impact you had on me and my life. I will NEVER say that you died. For you are NOT dead. You have left the cocoon of your body and are no longer in pain and no longer suffer. I think of you often, I miss you and I always hear your thunderous voice. Until we meet again dear, dear brother.
Nothing is ever truly lost.
"Loss" always hits me much later. So, my grief poured out this morning. I am much better that I have allowed this grief to come though and be released, like releasing a dove.
