FOREST OF DREAMS | Doom II: Grove [Ultra-Violence 100%]
54My playthrough of Grove, an adventure map set in a fairy tale-like world made by B.P.R.D in 2004. This was played on the Ultra-Violence difficulty with 100% kills, items and secrets attained using DSDA-Doom (v0.25.6) and compatibility set to complevel 9: Boom (v2.02).
Grove is one of those WADs where each time I play it, I always seem to find something new about it I hadn't known in previous playthroughs. Every pathway, encounter, and discovery within the map serves a purpose and leaves the player with a sense of reward. Although it's been described as a sort of crossover between Doom and Myst, I'm still not sure one can even put a label on it. It's one of the most original maps I've ever seen, and while it may not be everyone's cup of tea, it is memorable through and through. I know my commentary in this video gets a little rambly at certain points, but no Doom map has affected me like this one has. There are so many thoughts that race through my mind as I play it, some of which I describe in the video, but I think the most important takeaway from a map like this is that you never know how a creation of yours may affect someone else. Even if it reaches out and speaks to just one person, that may be the catalyst for them to create something of their own as well.
