Forging an epic fantasy sword part 3, making the handle.

The handle is build up from different parts, 2 bolsters and 2 wood handle pieces. The upper handle piece is wire wrapped, I use thick wire for this, as I like the rugged less mechanical look of it in comparison with thin silver wire.
The bottom one is leather wrapped.

The black crow cross-guard is made from leaf spring, brazed with bronze lines.
This sword is made in commission, and is a unique piece the winged guard is a special request from the customer, for questions about commissions and or prices mail me at freerkwieringa@gmail.com

The sword is made of pattern welded steel is has 432 layers, 1.2767 - 45NiCrMo16 and 1.2842 -90MnCrV8 steel. These two steels give a very good contrast but can be a bit tricky to harden as one of them is a air hardening steel. The result is a very strong and hard-hitting blade, the sword will be Raven themed, the final blade length will be around 1 meter, 5 cm at base.
